Welcome back to 90 with Nate!
I’m giving you 31 Top Leadership Traits, and this episode is Trait #14.
Just last night, as of the filming of this episode, I was hanging out with a really great leader that I know…a gentleman by the name of Gary Church. He’s a phenomenal song writer!
He asked me: “Nate…do you know what the difference between good and great is?” And I said, “What’s that, Gary?”
Here’s what he told me: He said, “The difference between good and great is in the details!”
You see, every Great Leader pays close attention to the details.
Now, if you’re in a context where you are leading other people, you still want to pay attention to the details, but you’ve got to do it in a way that your people don’t feel micro-managed…like you’re always looking over their shoulder.
So get with them. Look at their work. Encourage them. Praise them for the great job that they’ve done. And then you can say, “Hey…have you considered this idea?” Or “Have you thought about it this way?”
You still want to manage those details is you want your project to be great and not just good.
But, especially for your own person: if you want to be a truly Great Leader, you’ve got to pay attention to those details.
