Proverbs 17:27 teaches us: The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint; and the one who has wisdom is even tempered.
I like to think of it this way: it’s pretty much saying, “Hey…if you’re wise, you’ll know when to shut your mouth and you’ll know when to cool your top!” lol
If you’re the kind of person who always finds yourself talking and talking and talking while other people are sitting and watching you, that might be a sign that it’s time to hold back a little bit, watch your words, and let some other people in on the conversation as well.
And if you’re one who seems to get angry pretty easily and you blow your top over little things; well, it’s time to exercise some restraint.
Now the gift you’re going to give yourself when you can learn to speak when it’s appropriate, to use well calculated verbiage, to not get so flustered about things in life; the gift you’re going to give yourself is a lot of peace and some really great relationships with other people.
Because nobody likes that guy or gal that just talks incessantly all the time and doesn’t give anyone else a fair turn. Nor do they like the man or woman, boy of girl, who seem to always get blown out of proportion over little things that don’t matter so much.
So learn to talk a little less…learn to listen a little more…kind of cool your jets there a little bit and get even keeled… and you’re going to start to do pretty well there in the relationship department.
