Today we’re talking about John Maxwell’s Law of Priorities.
The Law of Priorities says: A Leader Knows that Activity and Accomplishment are NOT the Same Thing
Have you ever had one of those days where you have all this busy work and it seems like you did all this work and you’re just exhausted at the end of the day, but you look back and you feel like you never got that much accomplished?
I’ve coached a lot of people just like that!
It’s easy to get caught up in the minutiae and the little stuff. You know…re-alphabetizing our lead list for the sales calls we need to make; or shuffling papers around; or checking email; or spending an absorbent amount of time on social media.
But a real leader understands that just being busy and having activity is NOT the same thing as actually accomplishing something and getting something done in the bigger picture.
So take some time to sit down and ask yourself, “What is it that we are really trying to achieve? What is it that we’re really trying to accomplish?”.
I recommend applying the Pareto Principal as well: the 80/20 Rule. Look at everything that needs to get done, but focus on that Top 20% of activity that’s going to bring you the greatest result. Because that’s what you’re looking for: “What activity can I apply today that’s going to yield the greatest result for my business?”
