The Power of the Mastermind.  It could almost sound like one of those mystical, borderline cheesy tag lines, except…

Except that the brightest and most successful minds in recent centuries have embraced the power of collective wisdom from the intersection of great minds.

What Is a Mastermind

It appears that the term “Mastermind” first appeared around 1940 in Napoleon Hill‘s book, Think and Grow Rich.

Hill defines the Mastermind this way:  “Coordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit ofharmony, between two or more people, for the attainment of a definite purpose.”

While Napoleon Hill may have been the first to name such a group a “Mastermind”, he certainly wasn’t the first to pull together a group of great minds for the mutual benefit of each member of the group.

In 1727, Benjamin Franklin formed a sort of mastermind group he referred to as “Junto“.  Also known as the Leather Apron Club, Franklin’s club was designed for the mutual benefit of each member.

In Benjamin Franklin’s Autobiography written in 1791 (first in French, and then re-published in English in 1793) he noted this concerning the Junto:

“I should have mentioned before, that, in the autumn of the preceding year, [1727] I had form’d most of my ingenious acquaintance into a club of mutual improvement, which we called the Junto; we met on Friday evenings. The rules that I drew up required that every member, in his turn, should produce one or more queries on any point of Morals, Politics, or Natural Philosophy, to be discuss’d by the company; and once in three months produce and read an essay of his own writing, on any subject he pleased.”

What We Can Learn from Napoleon & Benjamin

For each of these great men, the aim and purpose of their groups was to mutually benefit and grow each and every participant, and that each and every participant would assist in the process through their personal contributions on the topics of discussion at hand.

Benjamin was the undeniable leader of his Junto club in the colonial days, and Napoleon was the indisputable head of his Mastermind.  But each saw the value of the collective whole!  They knew that the greatest knowledge and wisdom that would emerge from their respective groups would stem from the collaboration of great minds.

Napoleon Hill goes so far as to say, “No two minds ever come together without thereby creating a third, invisible intangible force, which may be likened to a third mind.”  That’s quite a statement!

Lesson:  It is specifically in the collective thinking power of great minds that even greater greatness unveils itself!

My Mastermind Experience

Nate Head Shot Red Shirt

I first heard the term “Mastermind” around 1997.  I had joined a home business model, and there was a certain group of people who were invited to gather at the home of the team leader for the purpose of strategy and idea exchange.

I REALLY wanted to get in to that mastermind, but I was never invited.

At the time I thought it was a “social club” of favorites that the team leader and his wife just liked better than the rest of us.  Now that I see it through more mature eyes, I realize that those people were at different level than I was at the time.  They were serious about their growth, and their results showed it.  I was just another guy in hopes of making some extra money.

In later years…as I grew…I was given a seat a the table at a number of masterminds.  Some of those were lower level masterminds that bore no cost, but the seat was earned on merit.  Others have cost me $1,500…$7,800…$21,000!  And every single one of them has been worth every penny.

As I got serious about my advancement as an entrepreneur, a leader, a business man, and even as a person…I spent more and more time and money on my personal growth and self-mastery skills!  It has been more profitable and fulfilling than any time or money I spent on any traditional educational, I can tell you that!

Here’s what I know:  You can always tell what someone values by where they spend their time and money!

How About You?

Have You ever ever wondered: “How do I find a mentor and a group of people who can really teach me what I need to know to succeed?

Have You ever asked yourself: “How can I get into an inner-circle of successful people?”

That was ME for so many years!  I wanted to succeed.  I believed that it was possible for me.  There were just holes in my knowledge, and missing information that I needed.

KNOWING that you are ABLE – KNOWING that you have DESIRE – KNOWING that you are HUNGRY – KNOWING that you just need a little HELP and FOCUS…

I have created something especially for YOU, and the many other Entrepreneurs and Entrepreneurial-Hopefuls out there
